Mark Anthony

Writer - Producer
Founder of Nidd Films

Profile
Mark Anthony is a Yorkshire-based writer, producer, and director whose work blends history, landscape, and emotionally driven storytelling. He began his career in performance and theatre education before moving into television and independent film, building a reputation for thoughtful, character-led work shaped by regional identity.
Mark has worked across multiple departments in high-end film and television, gaining practical insight into how productions function at ground level. His experience includes work on The Responder, The Hunt for Raoul Moat, Vera, 28 Years Later, Compulsion, We Are Not Alone, Peck’Eds, Flux Gourmet, and A Touch of Frost. These roles have given him a strong understanding of production processes and crew culture, informing the grounded, collaborative approach he brings to his producing practice.
He is currently completing an MA in Producing for Film & Television at Teesside University, where he specialises in UK finance models, recoupment structures, regional identity, and impact-led pathways for independent drama. His work increasingly focuses on stories rooted in Yorkshire’s archives, landscapes, and overlooked histories.
Mark’s upcoming short film, Sweetheart: Angel of the Moor, is based on the real 1858 murder of his ancestor Mary-Jane Skaife. The film reflects his commitment to bringing forgotten women’s stories and working-class histories to the screen — stories shaped by the land, silence, and the quiet strength of those who came before us.
His current work explores how cinema can operate as both narrative and encounter — connecting film, place, and audience through immersive and educational forms.

Roots & Storytelling
Mark’s ancestry stretches from the Yorkshire moors to the Celtic shores of Ireland and Scotland, shaped by families who crossed borders carrying stories, songs, and the quiet resilience of people forged by hardship and hope. His heritage is distinctly Anglo-Celtic, interwoven with Germanic threads — a lineage that mirrors the landscapes and histories that inspire his films.
These threads converge in his work: places where folklore meets faith, where memory brushes against myth, and where the land itself seems to speak.
Through Nidd Films, Mark continues that storytelling inheritance, exploring belonging, identity, and the deep marks left by those who walked these landscapes before us.
