About Nidd Films

Our Approach

Mary-Jane in prayer

Nidd Films is an independent film production company founded by writer-producer Mark Anthony and based in North Yorkshire.

We create screen stories rooted in place, memory and lived experience, films that bridge the past and the present, the personal and the communal, the seen and the felt.

Current Project

Mary Jane Home

Our launch project, Sweetheart: Angel of the Moor, is a historical drama inspired by true events that took place in Nidderdale in 1858. Blending poetic realism with grounded period detail, the film explores themes of obsession, justice, and remembrance through the story of a young woman whose voice was lost to history.

Beyond the screen, Sweetheart marks the first step in Nidd Films’ wider creative practice. Alongside the film, we are developing a focused outreach and heritage programme that reconnects audiences with the landscapes, archives, and communities that shaped the story. Through carefully designed workshops, guided experiences, and creative engagement, the project brings the past into dialogue with the present, allowing forgotten voices to be encountered with care and respect.

“Myths and legends are not lies, but splintered fragments of the true light.”

— J.R.R. Tolkien

At Nidd Films, we see film as a way to gather those fragments — shaping stories that connect past and present, the real and the mythical.

Where it all began

Producer/Writer: Mark Anthony

A moment in time. A seed of a journey. Dartington was where storytelling began — on black floors and bare stages, with words that dared to mean something.

Nidd Films

Rooted in collaboration. Shaped by courage. Committed to stories that endure.

CUT TO

At Nidd Films, we believe cinema is more than what happens on screen, it’s a bridge between generations, a conversation with the past, and a way to let forgotten voices be heard.
