About Nidd Films
Our Approach

Our Founder
Mark Anthony Writer–Producer
Mark Anthony begins every project with deep research—drawing on local history, personal testimony, and forgotten documents. From those foundations, he crafts screenplays that are emotionally truthful, visually rich, and grounded in lived experience.
Our films explore themes of voice, loss, justice, and the inner lives of working-class women too often overlooked by history. Throughout development to post-production, the goal is to create work that feels both intimate and expansive—like stepping through a door into another life, another time.
Current Project

Sweetheart: Angel of the Moor is inspired by the true 1858 murder of Mary-Jane Skaife in Darley. The film reimagines her final hours with poetic realism, placing a forgotten woman at the centre of a story about love betrayed, voices silenced, and the harsh weight of justice. Sweetheart is in development both as a festival short and proof-of-concept for a future feature.
Telling true stories through time, remembering the forgotten

Mark Anthony is a filmmaker, media educator, and historical researcher with over 30 years’ experience in storytelling, education, and voice work. He created Nidd Films to unite a passion for visual storytelling with a lifelong curiosity about the layered fabric of British history.
Mark is currently undertaking an MA in Producing for Film and Television at Teesside University, sharpening his skills while developing Nidd Films’ debut projects. For him, film is both a mirror and a time machine — a way to honour those who came before, and to understand what still connects us.
Where it all began
DARTINGTON COLLEGE STUDIO, 1994

Producer/Writer: Mark Anthony
A moment in time. A seed of a journey. Dartington was where storytelling began, on black floors and bare stages, with words that dared to mean something.
Nidd Films
Rooted in collaboration. Shaped by courage. Committed to stories that endure.
