The Valley: A Keeping is a practice-led moving-image and research project exploring landscape, memory, presence, and trace within Nidderdale, North Yorkshire.

 

Developed through Nidd Films, the work approaches the valley not simply as a backdrop, but as a lived environment shaped by time, weather, labour, ritual, and remembrance.

 

Created alongside the short film Sweetheart: Angel of the Moor, The Valley: A Keeping also exists as a companion object — gathering moments, landscapes, and remembered voices that surround the wider work.

 

It does not retell the story directly.

 

Instead, it is offered as an object of remembrance — something to be held, opened slowly, and returned to its place.

 

The project is being developed for gallery, museum, heritage, and educational contexts, inviting audiences to watch, read, listen, and reflect at their own pace.

 

Rather than providing fixed answers, it asks:

 

What does the land remember?
Can landscape hold human presence?
What traces remain after a life has gone?

The Valley: A Keeping is not currently available through a general online release. Instead, the project has been conceived as a gallery, museum, heritage and educational work, designed to be experienced through exhibition, conversation and quiet reflection.
