Angel of the Moor

A haunting Yorkshire true story, reimagined for the screen.

Sweetheart: Angel of the Moor is a short historical drama currently in development from Nidd Films. Rooted in Yorkshire’s landscape and history, the film tells the true story of Mary-Jane Skaife, a young woman whose tragic fate in 1858 still echoes across Nidderdale.

Filming is planned for September 2027, entirely on location in and around Nidderdale. With a strong focus on heritage authenticity and women’s voices, the film aims to honour Mary-Jane’s story while sparking conversation about justice, memory, and community. ⸻ A Story Grounded in Place In August 2025, our stills photographer Angus Chau captured early images for the project at the actual home of Mary-Jane Skaife. We are deeply grateful to Paul Boughton for opening his stunning historic house to us. These images mark the first steps in bringing Mary-Jane’s world vividly to life with accuracy and respect. ⸻ The Vision Written and produced by Mark Anthony (Nidd Films), the film is designed as both a cinematic experience and a catalyst for cultural dialogue. Our goal is to combine heritage cinema with feminist impact storytelling, creating not just a film but an opportunity for education and community engagement. A female director to be announced as the project develops. ⸻ Timeline Development now underway Filming September 2027 Screenings planned worldwide (festivals, heritage venues, and digital platforms) ⸻ Stay Connected Follow our journey as we bring Mary-Jane’s story from the moor to the screen: Facebook | Instagram | X/Twitter | LinkedIn | TikTok | YouTube
